The curtain closed on a great man on 29/1/2006 .It was a sunday at 9.45 pm that the late Yunis Ali passed away thousands of miles away from his family and home in Kenya . He was buried by strangers in a strange land which happened to be his ancestral home, but he was at peace and died a happy man.
The peace and happiness he felt at the end has a great significance to his family. He was at peace because he had finally taken his children to their ancestral home.He began the daunting task of tracing his roots way back in 1979.He was armed with only oral history that had been passed down through 3 generations .It is a story of Yor ,a young prince from tthe shylluk kingdom who fled the shylluk kingdom after his father was beheaded by the Mahdis in 1892. He joined the Anglo -Egyptian army as they journeyed along the river Nile towards East Africa on their territorial expansion campaign.A century later the late Yunis Ali ,a descendant of Yor ,had finally returned home. He was happy since by a strange twist of fate,he was now lying side by side with his ancestors whose spirits had haunted him for many years. On 29th January 2006 ,they finally claimed him as their own and refused to let him go.He is now resting peacefully with them in Malakal ,Upper Nile state in Southern Sudan.
On this his 5th anniversary we pray for his soul and for the souls of all our departed loved ones.
May God rest their souls in eternal peace.
Daughter,
Khadija Yunis Ali.
